Melrose, Minnesota 150th Anniversary
Melrose, Minnesota celebrated it's 150th anniversary this summer with a
city-wide Sesquicentennial celebration. Melrose Mutual Insurance Company
has it's roots deep in the historic past as one of the ten oldest
businesses still in existence in Melrose today.
The local paper published a special edition for the 150th
anniversary. If you would like to read the article about us, you can go
to their website

We put together a display for the Melrose Area Historical Society
Museum.
The museum is located at 518 East 2nd Street South in Melrose.

Our display is similar to the one we did for our 100th Annual Meeting.
We have photos of each president of the board since 1901.

The theme for the Melrose Sesquicentennial parade was “Pioneers to
Present”.
The board of directors helped put together a float using many farming
artifacts
from the turn of the century. Our main attraction was a hand crank corn
sheller
and a Prairie Buster walk-behind plow. Here is director Allan Wiechmann
working
on the float.

Our float was pulled by a 9N Ford Tractor, driven here by director, Joe
Loehr.
On the float are directors Dennis Primus, Don Hellermann, Leonard
Hinnenkamp
and Joe Soenneker handing out candy and shelling corn. Allan Wiechmann
is walking behind the plow. See him on the right side of the photo?
Our float won 3rd place!

We also entered the parade in Freeport. This time Allan Wiechmann
(front) got to
drive instead of walk behind the plow. Stacy Schiffler, Len Hinnenkamp
and
Joe Soenneker passed out candy and shelled corn.

Carter Schiffler helped his mom, Stacy pass out the candy.
